Alice Through the Looking Glass was my favorite book
as a child. As an adult, I view it symbolically as a psychological
journey inward. In creating a series of illustrations for it,
the challenges were: a.) To create images that differ from the
original John Tenneil illustrations which have become the definitive
Alice images in the mind of the general public, reinforced by
the Disney movies. b.) To bring my own personal vision to the
images, keeping in Lewis Carroll's spirit of surrealism and psychic
exploration. The pieces were created with a combination of watercolor,
graphite, colored pencil, and digital media and collage.
