A message from Maynard: When I was a small child, there were people in my neighborhood who actively and openly hated me because I did not share their religious beliefs, even though they were fully grown adults and I was just a small child. When the other children in the neighborhood saw the adults disrespecting me and scapegoating me, they got the message that it was ok to bully, abuse and shit on me. The same sorts of events occurred at my school as well. My childhood was horrible and miserable and completely ruined because of this, and it is because of this that I now loathe and despise all religion. And even if those unfortunate events had not occurred, I think I still would have eventually come to the conclusion that religion was, at best, a load of horseshit, a complete waste of time, and, as Marx said, the opiate of the masses, and, at worst, an instrument of control for maintaining unjust power imbalances, a mental illness that spreads hatred, ignorance, guilt and shame, and a poisonous plague upon mankind, hindering social progress at every turn.
